How to complete this week

Work through each tab in order. Do not skip ahead.

  1. Videos / Visuals tab — Watch every video in full. Take notes. Pause and rewatch anything you do not fully understand before moving on.
  2. Readings tab — Read every article and reference material. These explain the theory behind what the videos show.
  3. Parts tab — Review every component listed. Know what it is, what it does, and how it fails.
  4. Manuals tab — Work through every manual exercise. These build your ability to read and use real service documentation.
  5. Study Guide tab — Use this to review and reinforce what you learned before taking the quiz.
  6. Assignments tab — Complete every assignment. Some assignments do not require submission for grading. Complete them anyway — the hands-on practice is where the real learning happens.
  7. Quiz tab — Take the quiz only after completing all tabs.

Independent research

Do not rely only on the course material. Go further on your own:

  • Search YouTube for real appliance repair videos, component breakdowns, and assembly/disassembly walkthroughs.
  • Look up appliance service manuals and tech sheets directly from manufacturer websites.
  • Search for the specific parts covered this week and read how technicians describe them failing in the field.

The technicians who excel in this trade are the ones who study beyond what they are handed.

What to submit

Check the Assignments tab for any items marked for submission. If an assignment does not require submission, complete it anyway. The practice is the point.

Safety reminder

Unplug or de-energize the appliance before disassembly. Never assume a unit is safe because it appears off. Live wires, capacitors, and stored electrical energy can be present even when a unit is unplugged. Microwave capacitors in particular can hold lethal voltage after being unplugged — always discharge before touching internal components. Refer to the Week 1 Safety Orientation for full PPE requirements and LOTO procedures. When in doubt, stop and consult before proceeding.
